How to Install Greybird Theme With Elementary-Xfce Icon Theme on Debian 7 Xfce?

The default Xfce theme on Debian looks boring. We can use Greybird theme, which is default in Xubuntu. Greybird theme could be accompanied by elementary-Xfce icon theme. What do you say?

  • For downloading and installing Greybird theme, do the following

mkdir -p ~/.themes

cd .themes
wget https://github.com/shimmerproject/Greybird/archive/master.zip
unzip master.zip
rm master.zip

  • Now, for installing elementary-Xfce icon theme and installing it, do the following:

mkdir -p ~/.icons
cd .icons
wget https://github.com/shimmerproject/elementary-xfce/archive/master.zip
unzip master.zip
mv elementary*/* .
rm master.zip

  • You can update the icon cache. It is optional, though.

gtk-update-icon-cache-3.0 -f -t ~/.icons

  • Now install the following for Greybird theme to work:

sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-murrine gtk3-engines-unico

  • Downloading and installation are done. Now open Settings Manager.
  1. Go to Appearance > Style tab. Select Greybird master.
  2. Go to Appearance > Icons tab. Select elementary xfce dark or whatever you like.
  3. Go to Window Manager > Style tab. Select Greybird master.

You’re done. Enjoy!
