How to Get Hardware Specifications in Debian and It’s Derivatives?

Quite a few ways are there to get the hardware specifications or information in Linux based distros. A couple of tools are also available for that purpose. For the complete hardware specifications, lshw is a great tool. It’s a command line based tool. It would give you all your hardware related infos in command line. You can even get the infos in HTML form. Isn’t that cool?

lshw also has a GTK frontend named lshw-gtk. It’s the GUI version and would give you the same feature painlessly.

Install lshw in Debian or it’s derivatives e.g. Ubuntu, Mint, elementary OS etc. using the following command in Terminal:

sudo apt-get install lshw

Now to run lshw type:

sudo lshw

This would give you details in Terminal. If you want to get them in HTML file, type:

cd && sudo lshw -html > file_name.html

This command would create an HTML file in your Home folder. You can use any browser to see the output file.

If you prefer hassle free way, then use lshw-gtk instead. Install it using:

sudo apt-get install lshw-gtk

Now to run lshw-gtk:

gksu lshw-gtk
