How to Install Skype on Debian 7 Wheezy

Skype for i386 packages works on Debian i386 or Debian 32-bit version without any fuss. You can also use Skype for i386 architecture in Debian amd64 or Debian 64-bit. But for Debian 64-bit, you need to first enable Multi-Arch. From Wheezy onwards, Debian supports Multi-Arch with which, you can use i386 packages on amd64 Debian. Let’s get into the business, shall we?

For i386 or 32-bit Debian

Install Skype using the following commands in Terminal:

wget -O skype-install.deb http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-deb

dpkgi skype-install.deb

For dependency problem use the following:

apt-get -f install

For amd64 or 64-bit Debian

First enable Multi-Arch with the following command to enable Skype in Debian:

dpkg –add-architecture i386

apt-get update

Now download and install Skype:

wget -O skype-install.deb http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-deb

dpkgi skype-install.deb

You might need to use the following for missing dependencies:

apt-get -f install
